1st winner Architecture Design Competition "Alfa-X"

 

PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk or usually known as Alfamart company, continuous to innovate and create new ideas. They want to expand their market to the millennial generation. Last year, the company held an architecture design competition, "Alfa-X" with the design criteria: industrial, high-tech, instagramable, Millenials, low-medium budget. This competition is participated by architecture students all around Indonesia.

 

I, Andre, and Edward are excited and challenged to solve this problem through our design. We analyze, do our research, and carefully discuss to fulfill the competition criteria. This building aims to create a space for millennials' needs without neglecting Alfamart's function as a convenience store. To meet the industrial, high-tech, and instagramable criteria, we choose to use the materials and colors to represent them. Affordable material, white polycarbonate for the exterior makes this building look stunning at night. Using black and white monochrome color also strengthen the industrial and high-tech atmosphere. 

It's a commercial building, so the design must be easy to be built and duplicate at any site. That's why we use a modular beam structure. Besides used for shading, secondary facade from metal material also make this design easy to be duplicated and applied at any building site.

What makes our design special is we used a split floor concept (it's like a mezzanine) to make the ceiling look higher and grand. You can see the second floor when you are on the third floor, and you can see the first floor when you are on the second floor!

The facility in this building consists of : 

minimarket, seating area (1st floor)

cafe, music stage (2nd floor)

co-working, meeting room (3rd floor)

 

I am pleased because we are one of six selected teams to be present our design at Alfamart Head Office, Alfa Tower, Tangerang, Indonesia. We are the only team from outside java island, from Medan, North Sumatra.

In the end, our team came out as the 1st winner. I am super happy and never imagine being in that position. I hope that our design can be useful and bring positive impacts. Furthermore, our journey didn't end here. We get offered a chance to intern at the company for two months to complete and make the detail of the design.
